2015 has been an exciting year for Perth’s premier rectangular stadium celebrating a number of milestone events including the first full year under VenuesWest Management as well as nib health fund committing to sponsoring the venue for a further three years.
Nearly 300,000 patrons attended the venue across 29 events in 2015 with a number of highlights worthy of celebration.
Attendance records for the venue hit a new high in March when 31,997 fans saw the Foo Fighters rock nib Stadium only to see this record broken on 2 December when Ed Sheeran attracted over 32,000 patrons to the venue.
The Socceroos visited Perth for the first time in ten years taking on Bangladesh in a sell-out FIFA World Cup Qualifier on 3 September. Socceroos, Head Coach, Ange Postecoglou labelled the pitch one of his favourites in Australia in a historic event marking the first time that an Australian international team had played at nib Stadium.
Elite professional sport wasn’t the only level to take to the pitch this season as nearly 3,500 fans enjoyed the battle between Sorrento FC, who called nib Stadium home for their FFA Cup Semi Final clash against A-league giants Sydney FC.
Rugby League continued its growth in Western Australia when the South Sydney Rabbitohs produced another sell-out NRL fixture against the New Zealand Warriors. The future looks bright for the game in 2016 and beyond with the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles joining the Rabbitohs and committing to nib Stadium for a minimum of three years.
As we turn the page on 2015, 2016 is shaping up to produce another exciting chapter for the venue with Nitro Circus Live bringing their popular show back to nib Stadium on 7 March. The Western Force will be back on deck from 27 February in a reinvigorated Super Rugby competition and Perth Glory have secured a three year deal at nib Stadium. International sport is back next year with the Qantas Wallabies calling nib Stadium home during The Rugby Championship Tests against Argentina (2016) and South Africa (2017) at the purpose build rectangular stadium.
On behalf of nib Stadium and VenuesWest we wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year and we look forward to bringing you many exciting new events to Perth in 2016 and beyond.
